Eligibility Requirements


To apply for Citizenship by Conferral, you must:


  • Be a permanent resident of Australia

  • Have lived in Australia for at least 4 years in total, including 1 year as a permanent resident

  • Be of good character

  • Pass the Australian Citizenship Test (for applicants aged 18–59)

  • Have basic English proficiency

  • Intend to live in or maintain a close connection with Australia


Citizenship Test


The Citizenship Test assesses your knowledge of:


  • Australian values, history, and government

  • Rights and responsibilities of citizens

  • English language comprehension

Applicants must score 75% or higher to pass.Study materials and practice tests are available on the Department of Home Affairs website.


Application Process


  1. Check eligibility and prepare documents (passport, PR grant, ID, police check)

  2. Lodge online application via ImmiAccount

  3. Pay the application fee

  4. Sit the Citizenship Test (if applicable)

  5. Attend an interview or provide further documents if requested

  6. Receive citizenship approval and attend a Citizenship Ceremony
