Contributory Parent Visa

The Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143) is a permanent visa that allows parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia permanently. It is designed to reunite parents with their children who are settled in Australia.

Eligibility:

1. Parental Relationship: You must be the parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

2. Sponsorship: You must be sponsored by your child or your child's spouse who is at least 18 years old and is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

3. Age: There is no specific age requirement, but you must meet the Australian health requirements.

4. Health and Character: You and your family members included in the application must meet health and character requirements.

5. Balance of Family Test: You must meet the balance of family test, which requires that at least half of your children live permanently in Australia, or more of your children live permanently in Australia than in any other single country.

6. Financial Requirements: You must meet certain financial criteria to ensure that you will not require significant financial support from the Australian government.

Requirements:

1. Application: You must lodge the application outside Australia and be offshore when the visa is granted.

2. Contributory Parent Visa Charges: The visa application charge for this visa is substantial, including a second visa application charge. These charges contribute to Australia's community services and infrastructure.

3. Health Insurance: You must maintain adequate health insurance while in Australia.

4. Assurance of Support: You may need an Assurance of Support (AoS) from an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who is willing to provide financial support if necessary.

Family Balance Test:

The balance of family test is the same as for the 173 Contributory Parent Visa. To meet this test, at least half of your children must be settled in Australia or more of your children must be settled in Australia than in any other single country.

Processing:

Once you lodge your application, it will be processed by the Department of Home Affairs. Processing times can vary depending on various factors including the completeness of your application and the number of applications in the queue.

Permanent Residence:

If your 143 Contributory Parent Visa application is successful, you will be granted permanent residency in Australia. This visa allows you to live, work, and study in Australia indefinitely. You can also apply for Australian citizenship if you meet the eligibility criteria.
